Pacific Games in 2019 was scheduled to take place in Samoa but the venue of the same, as well as the Va’a event, is being changed. Events were scheduled to be held originally at Vaiusu and Mulinuu but now it would be held instead at Mulifanua which is an hour’s drive from the capital city Apia, located on the northwest tip of Upolu.

The office administration that looks into the Pacific Games event stated that the change was made since several obstacles were encountered as the initial plan was being thought out for implementation in the Mulinu’u peninsula and Vaiusu Bay.

The new venue is not completely new to such events since Va’a and other sailing competitions have been held here previously, such as during the South Pacific Games of 2007. Today the sports committee of Pacific Games 2019 had tied up with Samoa Outrigger Canoe Association but now the recent findings suggest that Mulifanua would be an ideal venue this year since it offers flat water conditions and great landscape views of Samoa shoreline.

The Pacific Games this year would start from July 7th. The duration of the event is for two weeks; the Va’a sailing program would also ensue around the same time, from July 9th. Organizers are confident that the event would go without hiccups as accommodation and other aspects are being looked into.

Last year there was a memorandum of agreement that was signed between accommodation providers in SavaiI and Upolu. However only 30 hotels are aboard this agreement and hence, remaining accommodation would be provided in the compound of the Methodist Church of Samoa. There is a total requirement of 4000 beds for the participants in this event. Since July is a busy time for tourism in this area, many of the hotels would not be able to keep their facilities only for the participants of the event.
